Estamos Acá

We have arrived and checked into our apartment successfully. We have walked over 40 miles throughout the city in the first 5 days. We have taken the SubTe and Taxis too. We love it here! It is very different than anything we have seen before--but it still has the feel of a European city, with a little rustic feel. We live an area called San Telmo, there is a very large street fair/market every Sunday right outside of our apartment. They sell art, antiques, crafts, etc. It extends for about a mile around us. San Telmo south of the micro centro--where the Casa Rosada is located (this is where the president lives). On the third day we were here, it snowed--this was the first snow Buenos Aires has seen in 79 years. They were going crazy, it made huge news. The snow did not accumulate, but they were still worried about the driving. We have met up with a PSU alumnus and his family (wife, child, and friend) and watched the Argentina vs. Mexico game. We are meeting some Ex-Pats for dinner this week also. We are starting our training for teaching English on Monday, July 16th. We are gradually getting accustomed to Spanish, it is difficult but easier now that we are immersed in it. People have a really nice accent, clear but different than what we have heard in Chicago, it takes some getting used to. We are probably going to Blog once a week, we hope you enjoy hearing about our journey as we experience it.

Hola!! Thanks you for sending me your blog info. It is always interesting to see how foreigners first react to Baires. I find my city (or what once was my city) quite refreshing in so many ways. Enjoy!

Thanks for the email with all the beautiful pictures! The sights are simply amazing! I am so happy you guys are settled and getting into your new routine. I can't believe how cool the appartment is! Those pictures alone make you want to visit. Have fun and take care! Jamie makes fun of me because I am so computer illiterate so you will have to bare with me and my future messages. What do you expect coming from someone who chases after 4 kids all day. It doesn't give me much time to sharppen my tech skills. I'm so happy for you both! God Bless, Jennie
